About Me
I am an adventurous person and love to travel. I like to work with my hands (building and fixing things) and have a love of history. I am a friendly and calm person (you have to be to teach kids sailing). I don't complain and am always excited for new experiences and challenges.
Letters of Recommendation
To Whom It May Concern:
I have had the distinct pleasure of knowing Grant Howerton in several capacities over the past three years. I can whole-heartedly recommend him as a competent sailor, a strong leader, and a person who is well-liked by all.
I first met Grant when he and several other students were organizing a sailing club at San Francisco State. Grant, along with several other SFSU students, successfully organized a variety of sailing outings for the club out of the Treasure Island Sailing Center (TISC). I immediately noticed the preparation and careful thought that Grant put into scheduling events, clearly communicating with myself and the rest of the TISC staff. I also noticed Grant’s ability to work with all of the various club members and to lead everyone through the launching, rigging, sailing, and derigging process with ease and enthusiasm. Upon noticing these strong and wonderful character traits, I offered Grant a job as a sailing instructor at TISC.
Grant has been a wonderful employee. He is one of the most responsible instructors I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. He always is on time, ready to work, takes excellent care of the equipment, works well with both adult and youth sailors, and always has safety and fun as the top two priorities. In short, I NEVER worry when Grant is leading a class. Grant has the ability to teach dinghy and keelboat sailing, and this is due to his own expertise in both of these areas. Grant is a strong, avid sailor. His enthusiasm for the sport is a joy to see. Where many sailing instructors might not want to spend their day off out on the water, Grant can’t seem to get enough! I highly recommend Grant as a team player whose love of the sport of sailing and ability to work well with others will make him a great addition to any crew.
Sincerely,
Amy Lyons

Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing to you to extend my sincerest recommendation for Grant Howerton. Grant was first a student of mine at San Francisco State University. His hard work and enthusiastic attitude allowed him to progress rapidly in the development as a sailor and teacher of sailing. In 2007, Grant worked alongside me as an instructor for SF State
Community Sailing in San Francisco, CA. He demeanor and passion for sharing his love and knowledge of sailing to youth in the city were instrumental to the success and growth of the program. His duties in the beginning of the program were leading classes and providing assistance as needed. Due to an untimely accident that occurred to me, I was unable to complete the remainder of the 2007 summer sessions. Grant immediately stepped in to insure that the program continued to offer safe, educational, and affordable sailing lessons for kids. In addition to his class instruction, Grant provided administrative support for the program. In 2008, Grant progressed into being the lead instructor and administering the program.
Community sailing programs and youth instruction require a wide array of skills to insure its success. I know that Grant’s passion for sailing and admirable work ethic would be a great addition to any sailing program that he entered.
Sincerely,
